Global Health at St. Mark’s Family Medicine

St. Mark's Family Medicine Residency and Clinic is committed to improving the health of all people.  Through our focus on refugee care, we provide a medical home to patients from troubled areas around the world.  Through medical mission projects, we also promote better health abroad.

During the summer of 2013, a group of physicians and staff  from the SMFM Residency partnered with local organizations in the Dominican Republic to reach more than 600 children.  In 2014, we returned to provide healthcare to nearly 1000 people, vision screening and glasses to around 500 people, first aid classes and kits to about 500 people, toothbrushes and dental hygiene teaching to about 500 people, and antiparasite medicine and vitamins to about 500 children in partnership with Accion Callejera and Fundacion Madre Tersa in Monte Cristi.

We again had a  very satisfying week and successfully met our goals of relieving suffering through provision of basic acute medical care and pharmaceuticals, improving the health of the children through multivitamins and antiparasite medications, and working toward long-term wellness through our efforts in dental hygiene, first aid, and vision.

Thank you to those who made it possible for us to purchase the medications and supplies to make it all happen including Operation Kids and Sabin Children's Foundation!  We could not have done it without these generous contributions.

For those interested in sponsoring our ongoing activities in refugee and internaltional medicine, please contribute to this year’s project by making a donation above or by sending a check to us.  St Mark's Family Medicine is owned by Utah HealthCare Institute, a non-profit organization with 501 (c)(3) status, and a receipt of your donation can be provided upon request.

Thank you!
